Information About Rings |

Rings
A finger ring is a band worn as type of ornamental jewelry around a finger; it is the most common current meaning of the word ring. Other types of metal bands worn as ornaments are also called 'rings,' such as arm rings and neck rings. Rings are worn by both men and women and can be of any quality. Rings can be made of metal, plastic, wood, bone, glass, gemstone and other materials. They may be set with a "stone" of some sort, which is often a precious or semi-precious gemstone such as ruby, sapphire or emerald, but can also be of almost any material.
There are various methods for determining proper ring size. Some of the largest rings in the world are made for the winning team of the Super Bowl. The unofficial record for the largest championship ring ever presented to a professional sports team belongs to the 2003 World Series champions Florida Marlins, with a weight of over 110 grams and with over 240 stones.
Rings can be worn on any finger, even on toe fingers. In Western culture, the traditional "ring finger" for the wearing of an engagement or wedding ring is the fourth finger of the left hand (with the thumb counting as finger number one). The signet ring, a ring designating nobility, is commonly worn on the little (fifth) finger of the right or left hand, depending on nationality.
Cracked Ring
In some countries in Eastern Europe it is believed that if a ring cracks something big will or has happened.

How To Measure Your Finger
1. Wrap a piece of string or paper strip around the base of your finger
2. Mark the string or paper where it overlaps to form a complete circle
3. Measure the length of the section of string or paper where it overlaps around the finger
4. Compare your measurement with this chart to determine your ring size

Reality Check
Rings and gauges are hard metal objects that can be measured exactly, but your finger is flesh and bone. Your finger is not round and it cannot be measured with the same degree of accuracy as the ring. At the end of the day, the right ring is one that will stay on comfortably. Average ring finger sizes may be useful as a point of reference for people who are not very good at measurements. These are offered to help you know if your calculations are reasonable.
Finger sizes sometimes do not correspond to body size. Finger sizes also are prone to change with temperature, humidity, exercise, what you have been eating, time of day, time of the month, pregnancy and other factors. Dominant hand is usually 1/2 size larger, so if you are right handed and have a size 7 ring that fits the left hand it is reasonable to guess that a 7 1/2 will fit the right hand. Quarter sizes are offered to help you get the best fit, however quarter sizes make more difference on smaller fingers than on large fingers.
The best size is usually the ring that fits snugly and gives a little resistance when you take it off. Wider rings should be a little looser that narrow rings.
Men take note that if you are not used to wearing a ring, the proper size will probably feel tight a first. Many men loose their wedding rings because they choose sizes that are too loose.
A ring fits well when it is no longer felt on the finger. If in the course of time the size of the finger changes or if the ring is to be fitted for another wearer, a sizing of the ring is necessary. The first step is to determine the finger size, which is done with a ring sizer, a set of about 30 steel rings in graduated sizes, If the customer has a comfortable ring to use as a guide, its size is measured on a graduated ring stick.
